What is “Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD)”, sometimes seen in the news ?
Show answer
Answer: C. THAAD is a US anti-ballistic missile defence system made by Lockheed Martin. It was in news in 2017 when the US deployed it in South Korea against North Korean missiles. So option C.
Watch for: Its deployment in South Korea makes students think it is a Japan–Korea collaboration.
Why the other options are wrong
- A. Wrong because THAAD is American, not an Israeli radar.
- B. Wrong because India's programme is the separate Ballistic Missile Defence programme.
- D. Wrong because THAAD is a US system deployed in South Korea, not a Japan–South Korea project.
